Collaboration is central but challenging when students are split across in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous modes. Use as many of these prompts as you find useful, and write one post rather than several.

Collaboration across modalities. What strategies could help ensure that all students feel equally included in collaborative tasks?

Technology and participation. Beatty highlights how tools like the LMS and video platforms support interaction. Which technologies in your context best support student participation, and how might you use them more effectively?

Design reflection. Think about a collaborative task you have used in a face-to-face course. How could you adapt it for asynchronous learners using LMS tools?

Personalisation prompt. Which LMS tools do you currently use to support interaction? Are there any you would like to explore or use differently after reading this chapter?

Equity lens. How do you ensure that asynchronous learners feel included and valued in collaborative activities?

Instructor role. What strategies can help you maintain presence and responsiveness across all modalities?

Read the other posts and respond to at least one, ideally someone whose teaching context differs from yours.

How to reply so that it is useful

Read at least one other post before you write your own, and answer it in three short parts:

    1. What works: name one specific choice in the post that would help their students, and say why.
    2. What worries you: point to one place where a learner in a different mode, especially the asynchronous one, could be left out, and suggest a fix.
    3. What you would borrow: one idea you will take into your own course, and how you would adapt it.

Post your own contribution as text in the message field rather than as an attachment, so that colleagues can read it without downloading. This is a practice task and it is not graded; the programme team reads every thread and replies where a discussion stalls.
