The HyComm project, officially “Designing an AI-Enriched Hyflex Learning Community for Higher Education Teachers,” is an Erasmus+ KA220-HED project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. It represents a forward-thinking initiative designed to address the evolving needs of higher education in the digital age. The project responds to the increasing demand for flexible, inclusive, and resilient teaching models that accommodate diverse learning preferences and emergent global challenges.

HyComm seeks to enhance the Hyflex design and delivery skills of higher education instructors while building the institutional capacity of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for digital transformation. Hyflex, a hybrid-flexible learning model, allows students to participate in courses through multiple modalities, including face-to-face, synchronous online, and asynchronous online methods. This model emphasizes accessibility, learner choice, and equivalency, making it a vital tool for modern higher education.

The key objectives of the HyComm project are:

    • Developing Training Modules: Comprehensive modules that equip HEI faculty with the skills and knowledge to design, implement, and evaluate Hyflex courses effectively. These modules will integrate advanced methodologies and AI tools to enhance teaching practices.
    • Creating HyComm-LAB: An innovative online collaborative platform that serves as a hub for co-creation, resource sharing, and professional development for HE staff. HyComm-LAB will foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation.
    • Building a Hyflex Community: Establishing a vibrant and dynamic network of educators and institutions committed to advancing Hyflex teaching practices. This community will facilitate peer learning, knowledge exchange, and the dissemination of best practices across Europe.
  • AI Integration: Demonstrating the application of AI tools in Hyflex course design, delivery, and monitoring. The project will explore how AI can enhance engagement, personalize learning experiences, and streamline instructional processes.

The HyComm project’s significance lies in its ability to:

With a consortium of five esteemed partners from four European countries, HyComm brings together diverse expertise in digital pedagogy, educational technology, and capacity building. This collaboration ensures a holistic and impactful approach to transforming higher education. The project promises to deliver sustainable results that will shape the future of teaching and learning in Europe and beyond.
