From 26 to 30 January, partners of the Erasmus HyComm project (Hyflex Community for Higher Education) came together at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) for an intensive staff mobility week focused on piloting the HyFlex course design. The event offered an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences, observing practices, and planning next steps for evaluating and refining HyFlex teaching across participating institutions. More information about the project can be found on the HyComm website.
The week started on Monday, 26 January, with an introduction to the LMS system used for the HyFlex modules. This session allowed participants to gain a clear overview of how the modules are structured and interact, laying the groundwork for the week’s collaborative activities.
On Tuesday morning, 27 January, partners shared the training activities they are currently organizing at their respective universities, including OZU and UiB. This exchange of practices and experiences was a highlight of the week, providing valuable insights into different approaches to HyFlex learning. To ensure everyone could reflect and discuss, the session concluded by 1 PM, leaving time for informal conversations and networking.
Wednesday, 28 January, brought an exciting engagement with the ECIU European University team. Participants explored how ECIU is piloting an AI tool to support teaching and learning. This session not only highlighted innovative approaches to AI-enhanced education but also sparked ideas on how such tools could complement HyFlex designs.
Following these discussions, Thursday, 29 January, was dedicated to collaborative planning. Partners came together to draft an outline for evaluating the pilot trainings. The session was designed to be open and interactive, taking the shape of a brainstorming workshop. The insights collected during this session will guide UAB in circulating a more detailed proposal for evaluation in the coming weeks.
The week concluded on Friday, 30 January, with a flexible closure session in the morning, where partners reflected on the achievements of the week and mapped out the next steps in the HyFlex pilot process. This final gathering provided a sense of shared purpose and clarity on how the collaborative efforts will continue in the project.
Overall, the staff mobility week at UAB demonstrated the power of collaboration in advancing innovative, flexible learning designs in higher education. Partners left with new insights, practical ideas, and strengthened connections to continue developing HyFlex courses that balance flexibility, engagement, and the integration of AI tools.
