Small Exchanges, Big Insights into Flexibility in Course Design
Hi everyone! My name is Sidney Martin. I am a teacher of English language and Principal of EOI de Tarragona. I was invited to the HyComm project meeting that took place in Barcelona on Thursday, October 3rd by the project leader, Kenan Dikilitas from University of Bergen. My participation in their discussion on the modular design of the teacher training proved to be insightful and productive.
Delegation visit from Hochschulforum Digitalisierung and Ruhr-University Bochum, Zentrum für Wissenschaftsdidaktik to UiB
On 7 May 2025, the University of Bergen welcomed a delegation from Germany as part of the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung visit to Norway. The purpose of their visit was to learn more about how UiB is approaching AI and learning analytics.

Each month, the TeLEd Monthly Events series highlights inspiring voices in the field of teaching and learning in higher education. Hosted by Robert Gray from the Program for University Pedagogy at the University of Bergen, on March 26, 2025, the series featured Prof. Dr. Hakan Aydin from Özyeğin University, one of the partners of the HyComm project. Prof. Dr. Aydin presented his talk titled "Instructional Modalities and Models during the Rise of Artificial Intelligence."
AI and HyFlex: Co-Designing Higher Education Futures with HyCOMM
As the world becomes increasingly driven by technological innovations that impact how we work and learn together, it is clear that the most important element of any teaching and learning environment is flexibility. As educators and administrators committed to our roles, we must continually ask ourselves the following question: what kinds of tools and approaches give us opportunities to reach the widest, most diverse groups of students in situations that give them the best chance to learn? As we convened at Özyeğin University in Istanbul to begin focused work on the HyCOMM project, it was clear that the members of the project team were perfectly positioned to begin answering this urgent question.
HyComm Co-Creation Istanbul
In March I had the distinct pleasure to participate in the HyCOMM Co-creation event at Özyeğin University in Istanbul. Invited as an expert in HyFlex Course Design and as one who has been experimenting with using Generative AI for teaching and learning support in HyFlex classes, I was fully engaged in the discussions among the project partners Bergen University (Coordinator), Özyeğin University, Autonomous University of Barcelona, European Development Institute and Education and Future Technologies Association alongside another invited expert, Dr. Matthew Russell from the University of Texas-Austin.
The HyComm Co-Creation Event
A very important step in the development of the HyComm project happened in Istanbul last week, where we met to hold a “co-creation event” intended to collaboratively construct a plan for the training modules and other resources the project set out to produce. HyComm is a collaboration between the University of Bergen (UiB) in Norway, Özyeğin University (OZU) in Turkey, the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in Spain, the European Development Institute (EDI) in Belgium, and EFTA, a technology firm in Turkey.
